Tattoo convention – a first for Benidorm

0

BENIDORM already hosts a number of unique events throughout the year – and will be adding another string to its bow next month with the very first Tattoo Convention to be staged on the Costa Blanca.

The three day event is taking place over the busy St Patrick’s weekend which witnesses part of the resort turn into a sea of green, with an influx of Brits ready to party the weekend away. The event is taking place at the Hotel Mediterraneo, located opposite the iconic Benidorm Palace and fully supported by both the town hall and Tourism Foundation.

Over 40 tattooist are taking part, not only from across the whole of Spain and UK but even traveling from Singapore, Thailand, France and Portugal – each with their own unique style. You will be able to browse and watch artists at work and book in for an inking over the course of the three days. Each day the artists will compete against each other
in a competition for different categories such as Realism, Old School, Black & Grey and Colour, winning a stunning 3D award designed by Skullture Barcelona.

In addition to tattoo stands there will also be merchandising stands selling T-Shirts, accessories, a caricature artist, 1950’s ladies fashion and quirky jewelry. The authentic Eddy Patry Barbershop team will be there, an old school American set up, with each impeccably turned out in shirt, tie and waistcoat and whose showmanship and skill will leave you enthralled.

Oscar Carvajal, a professional make up and body painting artist will also be on a stand – his work has featured in numerous prestigious glossy magazines and graced many fashion and haute couture catwalks. He will be on hand for makeovers and style tips. Two Guinness World Record Holders will also be making special appearances. The first is Elaine Davidson, who is the holder for being the most pierced woman in the world – over 9,000 weighing in at over 3kg! She will be performing some jar dropping stunts throughout the three days and the other record holder is Johnny Strange, a professional daredevil performer.

He holds the titles for the heaviest object lifted by pierced ears and the heaviest vehicle pulled by pierced ear… a Cessna 172-P aircraft incase you are curious. He will be doing two shows every afternoon which will leave you terrified and astounded in equal measures. There is also entertainment for the little ones, with Chris Mitchell doing some children’s workshops. He is writer and illustrator of the Realm Legends, a cartoon fantasy series and tours around schools and festivals in the UK and also Lauren Staton, a professional face painter and founder of Snazaroo.

The convention will also have a full program of entertainment and other things to look out for, particularly for the gentlemen are tattoo models Marta Boo and Mary Thunder, who will both be
performing their burlesque shows, with Marta Boo incorporating a stunning fire act; 1950’s ladies catwalk fashion show; Seysart, an award winning graffiti artist; Benidorm’s fantastic Meatloaf tribute act, local DJ Jeff Spinner and rock bands after dark.

The Mayor, Toni Perez will officially inaugurate the convention at 11am on Friday March 17 and there will be an Irish theme to welcome everyone in – tickets available at the door.
