Alfas del Pi weekend long celebrations in honour of San Jose

THE CULTURAL SPACE of Les Escoles Velles, Aflas del Pi will be dressed in an array of fineries this weekend for the celebration in honour of San Jose.

Organised by the Mayoralas de la Purisima, the main highlight of the festivities will be the burning of the municipaliy’s falla.

Sara Ortega, Reyes Oliver, Naomi Diaz, Venus Mendez, Rebeca Moreno, Estrella Fuester, Berta Lozano, Sara Luque and Ursula Caparros, all aged between 19 and 21 years, make up the group of young alphasinas at the centre of the celebrations, one of the most traditional festivals of Valencian culture.

All festivities, except for the Mass and the procession will take place in The Cultural Space of Les Escoles Velles, where the municipality’s falla will be erected on Friday afternoon at 4.00pm.

On Saturday, there will be plenty of activities to occupy younger children and their families, especially the opening of the ‘Children’s World’ at 12.30pm run by Jproduccions. There will be a bar service and in the afternoon at 4.00 p.m, a party with a performance by Jota Djota.

On Sunday, March 19, the day of San José, at 11:00 am, the Mayoralas de la Purísima with their companions and the queens and ladies of 2016 will pass through the city center to the parish of San Jose, where a Mass will be celebrated. The same will take place at 7.00pm and at 9.00 pm, the municipality falla will be burned and celebrations will close with a party in the square from 11.00pm onwards.
