Benidorm girls on top

A GIRLS YOUTH volleyball team from Benidorm is one step away from representing the town at the National Championships in A Coruna in April.

The team Playas De Benidorm won a tense contest against local rivals CV Elche 3-1. The girls have been leading the regional league all season and this victory means they will now qualify for the regional finals in Benidorm on April 1st and 2nd, whee they will be up against three other teams.

The winner of this final will go forward to represent the region in the National Finals on April 26th to 30th.

After losing the first game, the team regrouped and battled back to draw level and take control of the match, with some great attacking play from Amparo Velez.

The final score of 25-21, 15-25, 22-25, 23-25 shows how close each game was as the all the players held their nerve in the final stages.

On a good weekend for Playas de Benidorm, the junior girls team beat CV Villena 3-0 at home, despite not playing up to their usual standards, in a match littered with mistakes.
