THE AUDITORIUM of Calpe was filled last weekend as Aspencat collaborated with the musicians of Union Musical Calp Ifach in a charity concert in aid of The Valencian Association of PKU (AVAPKU).
The concert sold 538 tickets and raised a total of 4,500€ for Phenylketonuria (PKU) – a disease that affects 50 children in the Valencian Community.
Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a hereditary disease that results in decreased metabolism of the amino acid phenylalanine. Untreated PKU can lead to intellectual disability, seizures, behavioural problems, and mental disorder. Patients with PKU should perform weekly tests to measure the level of phenylalanine and adapt their diet and medication to the levels of each moment.
The funds raised from the concert will go towards the research project of a prototype device which allows the level of phenylalanine in the blood to be measured by the patient themselves.
Representative of AVAPKU, Jose Tur, expressed thanks to all involved in the production of the concert and stressed the importance of bringing about awareness of the disease which is little-known.
Cesar Sanchez, Mayor of Calpe, Olga Chaves, AVAPKU President, Paula Mas, AVAPKU Vice President, Gerard Fullana, Provincial Deputy, Jose Tur, AVAPKU and Pilar Cabrera, Councillor for Culture.
