THE Department of Environment of the City of Denia is encouraging the commissioners of the 2017 fallas to recycle and effectively manage their waste throughout the celebrations by recognising the eco-friendly with cash awards.
The department will award €2,000 in total amongst the commissioners.
Containers will be placed next to each falla to allow comissioners to effectively separate waste and manage the remains of organics, glass, packaging and paper. The containers will warrant easy inspection and judgement prior to the awards being announced.
Bulkier waste that will not fit in the containers should be piled in a small space next to its respective falla before being transported by commissioners to the ecopark.
Sand, artificial turf and other solid materials should be deposited in sacks or works containers to be collected by the cleaning service.
It is hoped that the creation of this award initiative will inspire commissioners in future years to substitute the masses of polystyrene that make up the falla bodies with rods and thin strips of wood – a traditional, much more sustainable and environmentally friendly technique.
The commissioners of the falla installation taking first place will be awarded €500, second place will be awarded €400 and third place will be awarded €300, with €100 being awarded to each of the remaining eight commissioners if they are to pass the eco-inspections.
