Javea celebrates the festival of San Francisco de Paula


THE FESTIVAL of San Francisco de Paula takes places this weekend in Javea.

Last week, representatives of the Asociacion de San Francisco de Paula de Javea presented the program of events for the religious celebration.

The Mayor of Javea, Jose Chulvi, and the Councillor of Fiestas, Antonio Miragall invite all residents and neighbours of Javea to join in the festivites in honour of the Saint.

This year, the programme includes a party on Saturday (April 1) evening, beginning at 8.00pm followed by a dinner of brotherhood in the Placeta del Convent with Dj Marc H Blasco entertaining.

On Sunday (April 2), the festivities will begin with a procession at 10.00am in led by the Romàntica del Saladar. At 11.00am, there will be a mass in the old Convento de Agustinas which will be followed by a procession through the streets via the following route: Carrer Dels Oms, Carrer Nou, Calle Damian Giner, Carrer Dr. Borrull, Placeta del Convent, Calle Dr. Gonzalez, Carrer Mayor, Calle Primicias, Carrer En Grenyo, Calle Virgen del Pilar, Carrer En Forn and back to the Placeta del Convent.

The festival of San Francisco de Paula is one of the oldest festivities of the town. Deep rooted in the neighbourhood of the Placeta del Convent and dating back to the middle of the seventeenth century,.its origins are linked to the Frailes Minimos, Founders of the Convent.
