THE MANAGEMENT team of the secondary school Num. 1 de Xabia sent the parents of students a letter informing them that as of this week, ‘mobile phones will not be allowed in the centre’.
The decision was agreed upon by the Pedagogical Coordination Commission and the School Consell who claim educational activity levels have been affected by ‘the abusive and incorrect use’ of mobile phones in class and around the school.
Oscar Sanchez, member of the local pólice of Elche, criminologist and expert in school harassment and use of social networks, atended the school on Tuesday to give a presentation to families and teachers on the use of social networks by adolescents.
In the letter, the school confirmed that the reception telephone will be available to students if they require it and students will not be able to collect confiscated phones on the same or the next day, but solely on Tuesdays and Fridays from 4.00pm to 5.30pm.
The school also warned that failure to comply with these rules may be grounds for disciplinary proceedings .
