Mazarron to get major road renovations

WORK WAS due to commence this week on the resurfacing and restructuring of the Mazarron port road close to the bridge crossing the Rambla de las Moreras.

The works have a budget of 396,908 euros and consist of the integral renovation of the road sign and repair of cracks and bumps detected in the section stretching from the 35.5 to 37.7 kilometre point of the road.

The completed job will allow sealing of cracks and leveling of pot holes by extending double-layer aggregate. Work will also include repairing of embankments and ditches, renewing vertical and horizontal signaling, and clearing the road margins to increase visibility.

The maintenance programme is expected to be finished within four months and will coincide with ongoing works on the construction of a new roundabout creating a direct access route to the Polideportivo sports centre of Mazarrón. Replacing the current T-shaped intersection with a roundabout will give traffic more fluidity and improve traffic flow to the centre.

This work is part of the first phase of a programme to create two lanes of traffic on this road that sees more than 13,500 vehicles a day.

The first phase roundabout has a budget of 258,371 euros and works are expected to be completed in the month of April.
