Polish couple arrested by Spanish police for swindling more than €1,600,000 in Germany


THE Guardia Civil in Alicante arrested a 51-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman, both of Polish nationality, who were being sought by the German authorities

The couple are charged with a whopping €1.6million of social security fraud offences in Germany.

The German authorities requested the collaboration of the Spanish authorities in locating the couple, after receiving information that they could be residing in the area of San Fulgencio (Alicante).

The couple had hired workers of Polish nationality without insurance and without paying the relevant contributions to the social security system in Germany. As a result the agencies suffered losses of 451,508€.

It is also claimed they had defrauded the German social security the amount of 1,184,207€, in unemployment benefits that did not belong to them.

The couple, who are said to have resided in Spain since 2006, have already been transferred to the National Court of Madrid to attend an extradition hearing.
