SAN MIGUEL Golf Society visited another Jack Nicklaus designed course last week, Saurines Torre.

Only 36 golfers showed up owing to the previous few days poor weather. The course had obviously suffered from the weather too, as the greens were generally “wooly” and a number of pin positions difficult. It proved to a be major difficulty for many.

The day’s stableford competition results, by category and in reverse order, were the following:
Bronze Category: 1st Ron Stenhouse (32), 2nd Brian Butler (30) 3rdNorman Mcbride (29) 4th Michael Inns (29 on c/b) 5th Marge Birtwistle (27)
Silver Category: 1st Brian Mulligan (28) on c/b, 2nd William Fenn (28 on c/b), 3rd Hugh Reilly (26 on c/b) 4thKen Flaherty (26 on c/b) and 5th Dave Hazell (24)
Gold Category: 5th Richard Wale (27) 4th Ivor Turkington (xx), 3rd Andy Shaw (29 on CB), 2nd Steve Higgins (29 on CB) and 1st John Aitchinson with 34 points.

The Abacus was won by Phil Birtwistle
Nearest the pins on the par 3’s (open to all) went to Marge Birtwistle, Chris Hamblett, John Osborne and Ken Flaherty.
