THE FESTIVAL – in its 15th year – will pay tribute to actress Concha Velasco who will receive the Pi d’Honor award on Friday March 31, after the performance of ‘Reina Juana’ in which she will play the part of Joanna of Castile, Queen of Aragon.
The Pi d’Honor award comes shortly after Valasco received the Order of Alfonso X the Wise – a Spanish civil order granted in recognition of activities in the fields of education, science, culture, higher education and research – in October last year.
With the delivery of the Pi d’Honor award, Alfaz del Pi Town Hall pays tribute to Spanish stars of the theatre. A plethora of national actors and actresses have received the award in previous years, among them Emilio Gutiérrez Caba, Juan Echanove, Juan Diego, María Luisa Merlo, Beatriz Carvajal, José Sancho, Lola Herrera, José Sacristán, Nati Mistral, Arturo Fernández, María Fernanda d’Ocón, Nuria Espert, Amparo Rivelles, Verónica Forqué and José Luis López Vázquez.
The festival kicks off on Friday March 24 with the performance of ‘Aqui no paga nadie’ by Darío Fo, head of the Arteteatro company in Villa Joyosa. Across the nine days, there will be nine performances, both from amateur theatre groups and professional companies.
