Tony de Love says farewell for now

THE one and only, Damian Munz, better known in local entertainment and radio circles as Tony de Love, is packing his bags and heading back to the UK.

Apart from being a regular on the entertainment and karaoke scene around the Orihuela Costa and Vega Baja, Tony/Damian was also one of the original presenters on TKO radio, along with being involved with local TV production. Damian is returning to the UK to manage a family Delicatessen along with his son Bradley, in Preston.

Damian said: “I am going home to work with my son and return to my early training, until the age of 17, as a trainee in my own family’s butcher business. This was started by my Grandfather who settled in Bradford after fleeing Germany. My wife Cath and daughter Abbi are both staying in Spain as Abbi wants to finish her education here, so I’ll be back regularly.”

Damian added: “I was born over a butchers shop. My dad was a butcher. My Granddad was a butcher who emigrated from German in between the wars to escape Hitler. My Grandfather was a German Pork butcher from South Germany in a tiny hamlet named Hohebach. He settled in Bradford, where I was born and brought up, and my Granddad became a successful Pork Butcher, famous for Pork Pies and for introducing German Specialities such as Polony, Hazlet, Salami and a range of Home made Sausage.”

At 18 Damian went into engineering, design and sales followed by running a pub in Longridge for 14 years. Damian met his wife Cath on Friday 13th December 1985, at work, at the same Engineering company. They married in 1989 and packed up the family and moved to Spain in July 2003, when the kids were three and four years old. Damian will continue to stay involved with his event management business and flying back to perform at weddings and also provide a catering service for special events and occasions. Putting on his Tony de Love hat, he’ll be performing a couple of farewell gigs, both at Smiling Jacks on 25th and the last gig on 27th March. He flies home the following day and everyone is welcome to party with Damian/Tony before heading back to Preston.
