U3A Marina Baixa go shopping for charity

MEMBERS OF  the U3A Marina Baixa, Bill and Joan Flint, went on a very special shopping expedition last week.

With 500 euros the organisation raised from their ‘Old Tea Stall’ at the recent La Nucia International Day, the couple were able to buy a substantial amount of food and groceries for their chosen charity.

Representatives from the charity, La Nucia Food Bank accompanied them on their excursion around Lidl, La Nucia with a shopping list of essential and a few luxury items.

The group were able to purchase a couple of hundred pots of yoghurt, almost 50 cartons of fruit juice, plus numerous packets of jamon, cheese slices, salami, chorizo, frankfurters, coffee and cacao. They even managed to squeeze 64 chupa chups lollipops out of their budget, to keep the kids happy. The goods were gratefully received by the five representatives of the charity who will pass them on to struggling families in the area.

U3A Marina Baixa hold their general meetings on the fourth Monday of each month in the auditorium at the Casa De Cultura in Alfas del Pi. The next meeting will be held on Monday April 24 and a welcome is extended to everyone.

Doors open at 10.00h for a prompt start at 11.00h and attendees are requested to arrive early to sign in and claim their seat before the desk closes at 10.50h.
