A ‘den’ for young people in Benissa

MORE THAN 20 young people of Benissa responded to the offer of the Regidoria de Joventut (Youth Council) to decide on the use of a newly allocated space for boys and girls aged 12 and over.

‘El Cau’ (translated to ‘The Den’) comprises a large room located in the basement of Casal del Jove and the city invited those who would use the facility to take charge of its governance.

Carol Ivars, Councillor for Youth, was very satisfied with the response – ‘for years now, young people aged 12 years and over have been limited as to where to spend their free time – and from this gap, was born the idea of The Den’

‘The Den initiative sees the council offering support to young people – with the opportunity to self-manage the facility and turn into what young people want, making educated and responsible choices.’

‘Users of the facility will be responsable for opening and closing it, cleaning it and decorating it.’

The initiative will be developed across the Easter period and the Council have already received several ideas and requests from the young people – such as the provision of cooking and photography courses, a football table and board and card games.
