FORTY FOOTBALL teams from twenty different clubs competed in this years International Benidorm Cup tournament, which took place in Benidorm and La Nucia over the Easter weekend.
The three day competition saw six different winners for the six trophies up for grabs and teams from Benidorm claimed two of them.
Benidorm Foundation were winners of the men’s Benjamin cup, beating EFM Boadilla in the final played at the Antonio lopez Sports Centre.
They were unable to repeat the feat in the cadet category, losing a derby match against local rivals City of Benidorm 2-0.
DAV Santa Ana was named best club after beating Villayoyosa CF 3-2 in the youngest category. They also got to two more of the finals before losing to EMF Altea 6-7 on penalties in the juvenile final and Albacete Balompie in the Infant final.
The girls final was won by CD Samper from Madrid, who beat Elche CF on penalties in the final.
During the tournament 70 matches were played, split between the la Nucia and Benidorm venues. 422 goals were scored over the three days, an average of six per match. Teams from Madrid, Alicante Province, Ibiza, Albacete and England took part in the competition.
The winning teams were DAV Santa Ana, CD Samper ( Both from Madrid ), Fundacion Benidorm, Benidorm City and EMF Altea ( Alicante Province ) and Albacete Balompie.
Speaking after the event, organiser Fernando Brotons, of Tour Sport Ptomotions, said: ”In addition to sporting prowess, the tournament promotes respect and sportsmanship and allows young people to enjoy their sport and co-exist with other sporting competitors ”.
