€4,800 raised for APAC and the ISVH Bombers

THE INN on the Green in Javea provided the perfect location for the Asociacion Protectora Amigos del Caballo (APAC) and the ISVH Bombers Voluntaries sell-out charity barbecue and car raffle on Sunday April 9.

The event raised an outstanding €4,800, to be split between APAC and the ISVH Bombers.

Guests returned home fat and full after enjoying the ‘excellent’ barbecue spread of burgers, sausages, chicken, coleslaw, quiche, baked potatoes and salad.

It was a gentleman called Barry’s lucky day as his name was picked out of the hat as winner of the Chevrolet Matiz raffle prize.

A smaller raffle was also held which raised another €140.

APAC have extended a special thank you to Pat McCue for her ‘relentless hard work and support’ without whom they would be ‘lost’!

Also, Stephanie Paige Cooper who painted the ‘White Horses’ painting which sold for €80. Stephanie donated the proceeds to APAC and presented them with another of her works of art – a painting of APAC mule and mascot Chyla.

APAC also extend their thanks to The Salamandra Charity Shop, Heaven Boutique, VillaMia Estate Agents, Javea AutoSales, Golden Leaves International and Blue Communications for sponsoring the Chevrolet Matiz.

APAC is a Spanish horse charity, set up to defend and protect horses and offer them a second chance through adoption.

Based in La Xara – run entirely by volunteers and funded solely by donations – APAC save horses from poor living conditions and distress, an issue ever more prevalent throughout Spain due to the economic crisis.

The horses APAC rescue are:
• Older horses who need to retire from working in riding schools – with bad legs and having served their purpose, they are no longer needed by the school.
• Horses whose owners have fallen on hard times and cannot provide the food and care needed.
• Many horses who are neglected, left in stalls on private land to starve to death, unseen by the public.

APAC aims to rehabilitate the horses, easing them into a new life of relaxation, freedom of a paddock and lots of food.
