Flying the St George cross for charity

PATRIOTIC ENGLISH residents and tourists in the northern Costa Blanca will soon be able to dress up in their red and white outfits, fly the flag of St. George with pride, and raise some much needed funds for local charities, at the annual St. George’s Day Fundraising party in Alfas Del Pi.

The highly popular event takes place on Sunday April 23, at the clubhouse on the Almafra Campsite on the outskirts of Alfas del Pi and doors open at 12.00h.

Dress code for the party is of course red and white and participants are encouraged to be as patriotic as they like.

There are several local bands, singers, entertainers and DJ’s line up to perform throughout the afternoon and confirmed acts include Jo Lynn, a Tina Turner tribute artist, The Rat Pack, Ron on the Rocks and Motown Band, The Fantastics.

The bar will be open all afternoon to quench the thirst of the partygoers, with a barbecue and food available to purchase to soak up the alcohol. Kids are very welcome too and will have a play area designated for them. If the weather is warm, they can even have a dip in the kids pool.

Anyone purchasing a ticket will be entered into a prize draw to win a Tablet and a tombola with prizes donated by local businesses will be held. There will also be a host of other fundraising activities.

Organisers are still looking for prizes suitable for the tombola, so if you feel you are able donate goods or a voucher from your business, your donation would be greatly appreciated.

This year, all monies raised from the event will be shared between two local beneficiaries, the Alfaz Food Bank and the Busy Bees Charity.

Last year’s St George’s Day Party was a huge success, with partygoers enjoying beautiful sunny weather and the fantastic atmosphere generated by the enthusiastic participants who filled the dance floor all day and created a sea of red and white.

Over 4200 euros was raised on the day last year, with more donations arriving later and as the event grows each year by word of mouth, organisers are hopeful of beating the final total from 2016.

Tickets can be purchased from Almafra Campsite, Robins Nest Bar in Alfaz, Union Jack Benidorm, Wayne & Des Bellamy Wright, Palladiun Bar Benidorm, Corona Blinds Alfaz or by calling 663 048 127
