BLOOD DONATIONS from Alfas del Pi during the month of March were up almost 40% on the corresponding period last year, the Town Hall’s Minister responsible for Health revealed last week, Marisa Cortez.
The data provided by the Alicante Blood Transfusion, who conducted the two sessions last month shows overall increases in the number of people giving blood, the rate of donation and the number of new people registering.
On March 2, forty five people arrived to donate blood, although six were rejected for various reasons. In addition, four new donors were registered. On March 30, 29 people were presented, blood donated 28 and three new donors were registered.
In total, March saw 55 people show up, of which 48 actually donated and 5 new donors registered.
The next opportunity to donate blood in the town will be on April 26 at the Casa de Cultura de l’Alfàs and this will be the annual marathon session aimed at attracting new donors, particularly from amongst the younger population of Alfas.
Cortés expressed thanks from the Town hall and the Transfusion Centre in Alicante for the continued support and solidarity shown by the residents of the municipality.
Whilst appealing to regular donors and also to those who have yet to register to donate blood, she expressed hopes for a continued increase like the one in March, so Alfas can beat the totals set in 2017.
