Silver medal for Santa Pola windsurfer

SPANISH OLYMPIAN, Ivan Pastor, from Santa Pola, won a silver medal in the Princess Sofia Trophy RS Class.

The competion, now in its 48th year takes place off Mallorca in the Bay of Palma and is one of the most prestigious events on the nautical calendar.

This year saw a rule change, where the winner of the open series of three boats went directly into the final. Pastor, in excellent form, won on day one and qualified immediately.

He was unable to continue this into the final, but finished a creditable second to eventual winner, Pawel Tarnowski from Poland, with Korean Taehoon Lee taking the bronze medal position.

A total of 646 boats and 833 sailors from 54 countries took part in the Princess Sofía Trophy this year, with the majority of competitors happy with the new set of rule changes.
