Benissa alive with Purissima Xiqueta festivities

THE FESTIVITIES of the Purissima Xiqueta, once celebrated on a local level in Benissa now attract many visitors from neighbouring municipalities across the Marina Alta.

This year’s 11-day-long holiday was opened by Marcos Torres before a coronation ceremony was held on the Paseig Dolors Piera.

The following day saw the offering of flowers to the Virgin Mary Xiqueta, with hundreds of Benissans out on the Street celebrating and Los Mojinos Escozios performing.

The following days saw float parades, song and dance with more performances from Aspencat, Narco, Ximo Bayer and the local orchestras whilst a community paella served up 2,500 portions.
