SAN PEDRO ALCANTARA’S annual budget is set to rise to around €7.5 million this year.
Deputy Mayor, Rafael Piña, said the sum “has never been seen in San Pedro and will be added to the €3 million currently sitting in the treasury.”
He added the town’s accounts have gone from only €800,000 in 2015 to their current, much larger figure in only two years. He explained, “when we arrived at the council in 2015, we found a small and exhausted budget and lots of bills,”, adding, “a year later we created an interim budget because we needed to know the reality of the necessary expenses and investments.”
He concluded, “it was a complex process,” but that the town finally has a budget free of that of Marbella, “which in turn will speed up and reduce the workload in Marbella.”
The funds are set to go towards urban improvements, refurbishing the interior of the performing arts centre, as well as the municipal sports facilities and to re-asphalting roads.
