Love all: Marbella mayor promotes town at Madrid tennis tournament


MARBELLA’S Mayor, Jose Bernal, has travelled to Madrid to promote the town at the Mutua Madrid Open, which attracts some of the world’s best tennis players.

Mr Bernal explained, “coming here gives the council an opportunity to promote tourism and sports.” He added, “the Mutua Madrid Open, which has a budget of over €20 million and is the third Master 1000 tournament in the world behind Indian Wells and Miami, has great media coverage.”

He said he was accompanied by player, Manolo Santana, “an important figure..someone very much linked to” Marbella, and he had been visited at the event by world number two player, Novak Djokovic, as well as Feliciano Lopez, allowing him to, “relaunch Marbella’s image.”

Mr Bernal added the event was receiving around 24,000 visitors daily.
