Rugby victory for Spanish club

EL TORO Rugby Club have earned the right to try for promotion to the next league after being crowned champions at the Baleares Senior League.

The team, from Calvia, Mallorca, won against visitors, Quebrantahuesos RFC; winners of the Aragon Senior League.

A try scored in the first few minutes gave the visiting team a psychological advantage. The home team crept ahead though, gaining 11 points to eight by half time.

The Quebrantahuesos kept the pressure on throughout the even-tempered, but hard-fought match, but El Toro managed to pull even further ahead in the second half, ending the match at 23 points to 14. The win gives El Toro a slight advantage in this week´s return game, which is sure to be a tough one. The match takes place tomorrow in Son Caliu, kicking off at 4pm.

In other rugby news, The Virgins have become the first Argentinian rugby team to visit Mallorca, playing The Barbarians; a group of veteran players from across the island´s teams. The Virgins, who are based in Tucuman Province, who have a long history, welcomed veteran Mallorquin players in November last year.
