Improvements to Torreblanca park after storm damage

FUENGIROLA’S COUNCIL are carrying out a series of improvements to Torreblanca’s Parque de la Presas, following damage from rainstorms.

Maria Jesus Pascual, Councillor for Green Spaces, has visited the works, explaining, “parks such as this, that contain a natural stream, always suffer in rainy periods… and it would be a shame not to be able to use it all year round. These works therefore allow locals to enjoy nature without leaving town and make this beautiful space visitable again.”

She added, “it is a complicated job because not only did we have to clean up the area, but also create bathrooms, a stairway, install wiring and irrigation, trim trees that were in a dangerous condition, plant out, create new natural steps with stones to avoid using other elements that could be washed away by the water.” She concluded the area was now once again “in an optimal condition.”

The saga of the damaged park has been ongoing for several years. In mid-2006, a project to create the green space was started, although by December 2007 it was still not complete and students from local schools lent a hand to finish it off. In January 2008 it finally opened its doors, before being expanded again in 2015.
