A man with a musical mission to fight cancer

EDWARD WALL from Sheffield was diagnosed with cancer 13 years ago but survived after extensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Once recovered he took early retirement and moved to Manilva where he has lived for the past 10 years but needed a hobby to keep himself occupied and had always enjoyed drawing so decided that he would take that up again.
Being also a great fan of rock and pop music he started drawing some of his favourite performers freehand, using a black marker pen and then he had a great idea.
What if he could persuade these artists to sign his drawings and then he would donate them to various cancer charities to auction off?

The idea
Since 2012 when he first drew Bryan Ferry, this has become something that he undertakes with a great deal of planning and precision as he finds details of various artists who are playing in the Costa del Sol and then contacts their management asking if he can meet the bands or singers and get them to sign his artwork.
He has been very pleased with the results as a high percentage of those he contacts either agree to meet with him or in the recent case of Foreigner make a donation to Cancer UK.
For Edward this is a labour of love which also has a positive result as it raises funds for different charities both in the UK and here in Spain. His preferred charities are Cancer Research UK, Sheffield Branch and Danni Children Cancer Charity in Sotogrande.

Danni Children Cancer Charity
Danii is a young girl who after recovering from one attack of cancer was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) when she was 18 and she formed her charity to allow her to raise funds for three different Spanish associations connected directly with raising funds to help cancer victims.
Her latest event is a fundraiser at Chambao Beach Bar on Torreguadiaro Beach next Monday with entry just €5 and an additional €10 for a barbeque. Apart from the live music, there will be a charity auction and Edward has donated one of his signed Duran Duran sketches as well as artworks showing all of the artists taking part in the evening.

Musicians who said yes
So far, by visiting different events including those run by Crazy Music Productions at the Puente Romano Tennis Club, Gibraltar Music Festival and Starlite amongst others, he has obtained signatures on his drawings from an impressive list of artists including his first, Brian Ferry, Bananarama, Kid Creole, Ronan Keating Kaiser Chiefs, Travis, Jethro Tull, Suggs, Duran Duran, Sister Sledge, Paul Young and All Saints.
Edward is geared up for this year’s concerts so is looking forward to drawing the artists, seeing them perform, meeting them and then helping to raise more funds for his favourite cancer charities.
