A slam dunk in Fuengirola

FUENGIROLA has played host to the final phases of the junior provincial basketball championships at the town’s Juan Gomez Juanito pavilion.

Commenting before the event, Pedro Cuevas, Councillor for Sports, said, “I want to thank the Malaga basketball delegation and the Salliver Basketball Club for making our city the centre of these three final phases; we are very proud and we will do our best so that all goes well and the event can be enjoyed by Fuengirola’s basketball fans.”

For his part, Ricardo Bandres, the Malaga delegate of the Andalucian Basketball Federation, said, “it is no coincidence that almost every weekend we play finals in Fuengirola, due to the facilities the town hall has.” He added, “The Federation Cup is very important to us because the best teams from Malaga participate in each of the three categories.”

Angel Saura, the sports director of the Salliver Basketball club, explained the event was a first, saying, “this is the first time in Fuengirola three finals have been held in a single facility and that’s because we have three courts to accommodate them.” He also praised the initiative of “having male and female players in the same team, showing our work on equality.”
