La Ballena building will just be a memory

THE  ‘LA BALLENA’ building in Torrevieja will be history this summer as the City recently awarded the €225,000 contract for its demolition to Murcian company Derribos Paredes.

The demolition of the 23-metre high, six-floor building comes a decade after its residents were evicted following municipal reports warning of its ‘imminent ruin’.

The City initially budgeted €369,000 including VAT for the demolition, but municipal technicians have endorsed Derribos Paredes’ report which states the work can be done for €225,000, saving more than €140,000.

The building will be demolished at the end of June or early July and the 560 sq/m plot cleared by the end of the summer.
