AN 85-YEAR-OLD man has died on the Costa del Sol after falling from the fig tree he was picking fruit on.

The man died in Torrox at around 10.15am in his family farm in the Pago de la Boticaria area when he fell three and a half metres from the tree and hit his head on a rock.

Local police and health workers attended the scene after the man’s family raised the alarm but were unable to save his life.

Elsewhere in the Costa del Sol, a 52-year-old woman has also been injured after falling from her bicycle in Torre del Mar. The cyclist was travelling along the town’s main street when a truck passed close by her, creating a gust of wind which knocked her from her bike.

The driver did not stop and was intercepted in Almayate where he tested negative for alcohol and said he had not noticed the woman fall. The cyclist is being treated bruising at the Comarcal Hospital.
