Rambling Walkers take on the Pyrenees

ROD GOODMAN, Chairman of the Rambling Walkers reports on the group’s most recent holiday…

‘To round off their walking season, 40 Rambling Walkers from the Marina Alta, travelled to Ainsa in the foothills of the Pyrenees for a week of walking.

The holiday was brilliantly organised by the husband and wife team of Julie (Group Secretary) and Mark (Treasurer) who were joined by Pancho and Mia, who lead some of the walks.

Both couples spent several days reconnoitering the walks and ensured that everyone enjoyed safe rambling.

In true Rambling Walkers style. two walks were offered each day, ranging from a gentle stroll to the ancient town of Ainsa and more energetic ridge walks in the Valle de Ordesa National Park of the Montagne Perdido (The Lost Mountain), where the group visited dramatic waterfalls.

They stayed at The Hotel Pena Montanesa, and were impressed by the excellent facilities, the varied food and the friendly service with many members trying out the new spa and the large swimming pool with views of the mountains.’

The international, friendly group walks on alternate Thursdays from September through to May – the walks are followed by an optional social lunch in a local restaurant.
