MASTER of soul and RnB Lemar who has sold millions of records will be performing for the first time in Spain at the Estepona Auditorium on Saturday.
Currently finishing his latest album, he agreed to speak to the EWN Media Group and give some insights into the man behind the voice by responding to a series of questions.
He decided to make this short visit in order to offer his support to five young members of the Rising Stars project who will also be performing at the show.
Some musicians who have become famous adopt a different persona but Lemar is softly spoken, intelligent and charming, giving up a lot of time (especially after a dental problem) to answer all of our questions.
Tickets for the event which include the Brown Sugar Soul Band, the Rising Stars, Rachelle Fisher and dancers followed by Lemar cost €25 and can be obtained at the Auditorium ticket kiosk or www.eventbrite.co.uk.
A lot of information is easily available through the internet, but the following questions and answers do perhaps help readers to know a little more about the singer and family man who has two young children, two BRITS and three MOBO awards together with a passion for performance.
What is your greatest fear?
Not trying. I think its good in life to try for every dream you have. The fear of growing old and saying ‘if only I had tried this or… I wish I had done that…. is what keeps me wanting to try as many things as possible.
What is your favourite food?
Chicken – I like chicken in most forms.
Who would you invite for a meal dead, alive or fictional?
Me – 10 years ago. That way I could give myself some advice and avoid a few situations.
What is your secret pleasure?
Silence. My world is filled with sounds and people. I like to occasionally get away from the madness and be alone in silence with just my thoughts for an hour or so. I think it’s healthy.
Which is your favourite band?
When I was a teenager it was Boyz II Men and Jodeci. I like the R&B flavour and their vocal harmonies were crazy. Currently maybe the Chainsmokers. I do like a lot of the Coldplay albums as well.
Where do you find the energy to keep going?
From life. Life is for living. You have to keep going otherwise what else is there? The thought that I can inspire someone through music and my own experiences / interpretation of life is what keeps me ticking over.
Which public figure do you dislike the most?
Trump hasn’t done himself any favours. I’m not sure whether its intentional or just knee jerk mistake but… something doesn’t sit very well so far. Although – in recent events or PM hasn’t done so well either so…
What song would you like played at your funeral?
Kool and the Gang – Celebration. Because hopefully I will go at a time when I have lived out most of my dreams so it will be a happy occasion not a lost one. I want to go out with a smile knowing I have lived to the fullest I could have.
What do you like about yourself most?
I think I have a good amount of patience. That’s a good quality I think (sometimes).
Who would play you in the film of your life?
I used to say Will Smith because I think he’s a great actor. But he’s older than me. I guess they could find a way around that. Hmmm.
What was your ambition when a child?
To be a doctor. That really worked out didn’t it!
What is your first memory?
The first thing that came into my head was sitting in my mother’s room and her singing in the summer while walking around the house. She was always singing.
What question should I have asked?
Any new music coming Lemar? YES – I am nearly done recording a new album. Can’t wait for people to hear it. Hope to get out on the road soon. Bless! X
