FUENGIROLA has hosted Spain’s oldest scale model competition, called Fuengirola un Sol de Ciudad, at the Palacio de la Paz.
The event, which is in its 24th year, began in 1993 as a small competition and has turned into one of Spain’s most important national events. This year’s theme focused on Africa, with prizes awarded to the best models in this free exhibition.
A high number of entrants signed up to this year’s festival, which took place last Saturday and Sunday, after organisers changed the dates from Easter to June.
Four hundred people took part in the show, which started as a local model competition, organised by a group of friends and has become a large festival celebrating the hobby, “an event that is associated with Fuengirola and attracts a lot of people,” according to Ana Mula, the town’s Mayor.
On display were historical recreations, various types of toys, model airplanes and railways, as well as radio-controlled figures.
At the event, participants also enjoyed lectures on scale models, as well as various other related activities.
