A SURPRISING number of players from the Valldigna Golf Society took up the challenge of La Galiana last week on a scorcher of a day, with golf to match.
The camaraderie between all players old friends and new alike was on top form, however, unfortunately David Hills had to retire after nine, but will no doubt return to the fold soon.
Now the handicap system is functioning well it’s evident by the fact that all players came in with scores so close to each other.
The top 10 all in the 30s again this month so the rest of the mere mortals will have to pull their proverbial socks up.
This months members winners were: 1st. Tom Smith with 39 points, 2nd. David Downes with 35 points, 3rd. Derek Lindley with 31 points and 4th. everyone’s favourite American Steve Conley with 28 points. The guests came in with some excellent scores as well, 1st. Mike Zucker with 33 points, 2nd. Gary Baker with 31 points and 3rd. also with 31 points Graham Wells.
The nearest the pins went to Gary Baker on the 3rd., Phil Holmes on the 5th., David Downes on the 14th., Derek Lindley on the 15th, Mike Dungay on the 16th. and Graham Wells on the 17th.
The two Longest Drives went to Norman Croft on the 11th and Paul Chamberlain on the 12th.
The Galiana claimed 98 of golf balls this month so the lucky winner of the lost balls competition was Allan Smith who went home 43 euros richer.
For anyone wishing to take on the Galiana with the society, the next game is on Tuesday July 11.
