Flame grilled burgers as airport evacuated following fire

DURING THE middle of the peak of the tourist season, Alicante-Elche Airport was forced to briefly evacuate following a fire in the Burger King fast-food restaurant.

Fourteen firefighters from seven appliances rushed to the scene from neighbouring San Vicente and Elche to extinguish the fire that allegedly started in one of fryers due to an accumulation of fat in the extractor system.

The popular restaurant will remain closed until a review of both the safety of the premises and its security has been undertaken.
