Forty evacuated in Torrox blaze


TENS of people on the Costa del Sol have been evacuated from their homes following an early morning fire in Torrox’s Barranco de Perez and Loma de Paniagua.

Firefighters rushed to the scene, battling the flames which were rapidly spread by the wind.

After covering three hectares of land, the extinguished the blaze, after removing people from six houses in the area.

Home-owners were allowed back into their properties at around 3pm, although one house is reported to have been very badly damaged.

It is not known how the fire started.

Elsewhere on the Costa del Sol, a recent forest fire in Benagalbon was extinguished with the help of two helicopters and 27 infoca workers after five hectares of scrubland and olive grove caught fire.

In Velez Malaga another fire broke out in a rural area but was quickly extinguished.
