A SIXTY-six-year old German, accused of downloading and making child pornography went on trial in Alicante.
The man, who lived in Benidorm and worked for youth organisations, was caught in a nationwide police operation, four years ago, which brought 18 arrests in 17 provinces.
The suspect, who has been detained in prison since his arrest in 2013, was charged with sexual abuse of minors, including the daughter of his ex-partner, and the possession of 169 computer files featuring videos and images of child abuse and severe cruelty.
The German national, who lived alone in the town, had previous convictions against him, in his home country.
In his Benidorm home, detectives discovered a locked room, with video equipment, children’s toys and clothes, plus kids candy and long range binoculars for viewing children on a nearby beach.
Sources close to the Valencian high court, told the Spanish press, they expect the trial to start today, with prosecutors demanding a nine year prison sentence.
