DOMESTIC abuse victims on the Costa del Sol

DOMESTIC ABUSE victims on the Costa del Sol are set to receive additional help after Velez Malaga’s Council launched a counselling programme.

The scheme, which will involve five psychologists from the town’s Social Intervention and Family Treatment services, aims to allow women to regain control of their lives.  They will receive between three and six counselling sessions at the Municipal Women’s Information Centre (CMIM), depending on the severity of their condition.

Zoila Martin, Councillor for Equality, said “at the CMIM we find a high number of women who require psychological intervention, who especially need immediate attention ina time of crisis, to alleviate as far as possible the effects of, and decrease the scale of, the damage.”

Councillor Martin added, “this is something that can be overcome given the right care which alleviates victims’ suffering, attends to their basic needs, helps their physical and emotional recovery and brings them into contact with a support network so they can resume their normal daily life.”
