Poniente beach swim death in Benidorm


A SEVENTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD man died after getting into difficulties, while swimming off Benidorm’s Poniente beach early last Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred on the beach, around 7.30pm close to the Old Town, near to Parque d’Elche, when other bathers alerted a duty lifeguard to the man’s predicament.

The lifeguard pulled the unconscious body ashore, and immediately began resuscitation techniques, which continued after emergency services arrived on the scene.

After attempting to revive the body for an hour failed, the victim was eventually pronounced dead at around 8.30pm.

Police sources, have yet to release details of the victim, who was a resident of Benidorm, but revealed the man may have drowned after suffering a heart attack whilst swimming.
