THE RESIDENTS of Rincon de la Victoria have so far this year donated 37 tons of used clothing across 12 Humana containers.
The amount of fabric collected means 118 tons of CO2 emissions have been saved from going into the atmosphere, helping the environment.
Through the initiative, residents can deposit clothing, footwear, accessories and home textiles they no longer use. The free collection service also”allows us to save significant amounts of money on the cost of collecting waste,” according to Rincon de la Victoria’s Mayor, Francisco Salado.
He praised “the commitment of locals to helping the environment and the charity, which carries out important social development work in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Spain.”
Rincon de la Victoria has maintained an agreement with the Humana Foundation to collect used clothes since January 2004. The charity, which has been going since 1987, promotes the protection of the environment through the recycling of used textiles.
