San Miguel Golf Society at La Finca

SMGS at La Finca

IT’S BEEN a while since the society has been to La Finca and 35 members and four guests made it this time around. A perfect day weather wise found the course in good condition apart from the greens, a rather major part of events, which had been sanded and fertilised with quite a bit still remaining after brushing. This meant they were slow and not very responsive to the break.

The relatively long set-up of the course once again favoured lower handicappers, scoring in that category outdoing the vast majority of members in the other two. Tony Sims, Steve Higgins and Brian Mulligan all broke par, with the latter pair both scoring very good 39’s.

The day’s stableford competition results, by category and in reverse order, were the following:

Bronze Category: 4th Kyree Skarsmoen (26 on CB), 3rd Norman Padmore (28), 2nd Neil Sheldon (31), and 1st Chris Hamblett with 33 points.

Silver Category: 4th Dave Blackburn (31), 3rd Linda Cain (32), 2nd Frank Stanhope (35), and 1st Brian Mulligan with 39 points

Gold Category: 4th Jamie Rorison (36 on CB), 3rd Norman Cahill (36 on CB), 2nd Tony Sims (37), and 1st, Steve Higgins with 39 points.

Nearest the pins on the par 3’s (open to all) went to Jamie Rorison (hole 3), Gary Hill (6), John Sorenson (13) and Noel Bannon (16).

The Abacus was won by Wenche Westburg.

The Best Guest prize went to Gary Hill (28)

Our thanks go to the staff at La Finca golf course for their contribution to an enjoyable day.
