AS USUAL, the camaraderie was in tip top form along with the golf at the Valldigna Golf Society’s latest event.
La Galiana was in spectacular shape, with slick greens and plenty of rough to catch any of the wayward balls, of which there were many on this occasion but not as many as there used to be.
New members are always welcome to join the Society and this month a warm welcome was extended to both Brian Smith and Carl Randall.
And so to the roll of honour for this month:
From the members, first place went to Hans Benzler with 39 points, runner-up was Mark Wynnick with 36 points and ‘bronze medal’ spot went to David Kerr who was only a single shot behind on 35 points. The guest prizes for July went to the two new boys, with the said Brian Smith in first place with a very respectable 31 points and in second place, first timer Carl Randal with 26 points.
Nearest the pins on the day went to Brian Smith on 3, Paul Beamish-Knight on 5, Hans Benzler on 14, Hans Benzler on 15, Carl Randall on 16, and Ian Parker on 17. The longest drive awards went to Ralph Borthwick on 11 (in 2) and Alan Stainforth on 12.
This month’s lost ball competition was won by Mark ‘Lucky’ Wynnick, who drove off – in more senses than one – with an extra and very much welcomed €38 in his pocket.
New members and guest players are always welcome. If you fancy pitting your skills against the La Galiana course, why not join the Society at their next game on August 15 – a Tuesday and a Spanish ‘Red Day’ too, so no work to get in the way of a round.
