FINCA SAN Miguel de Salinas had a sad start to the month of July as Rita – a dog they rescued – passed away.
Rita leaves behind her 2-year-old daughter, Zara who is looking for a forever home.
Despite the sad feeling amongst all at the finca, the month got a little better as the goats were finally moved to a bigger enclosure together with the geese.
Piggy and Porgy now have more space and everyone is living happily.
The finca’s next ever-popular open day will take place on Saturday July 29 between 5.30pm and 9.30pm and everyone is invited along, promising fun for the whole family. Feel free to bring apples, carrots and tomatoes to feed the farm animals or cat food/ dog food for the cats and dogs.
In a bid to raise more money, Mona and Sol have pledged to do the ‘ice bucket challenge’ at the next open day and are appealing for sponsors.
Sponsors will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a Serrano ham and the highest sponsor will be asked to throw the ice bucket!
Sponsor forms are available from Cheers Bar & Restaurant and Wolfies Bar Blue Lagoon.
Finca San Miguel de Salinas is supported by ‘Happy Animales Spain’, founded by Mona Nowak. Happy Animales Spain is a registered charity committed to the welfare of impoverished and abandoned animals. At the finca, neglected animals are taken, provided with any veterinary care they might need along with a lot of cuddles and very often adopted.
The work of Finca San Miguel de Salinas and Happy Animales Spain is not limited to the day-to-day running of the finca. They regularly inspect animal cruelty in the area, discuss solutions with animal owners and carry out follow-up checks. If there is no other option, they will work to confiscate the animals and take them in at the finca.
You can help the finca (and the 8 horses, 13 geese, 4 ponies, 6 goats, 4 pigs, 2 dogs, chickens and feral cats!) by giving donations or becoming a food sponsor for €5.00/ €10.00 or more each month.
