Airport thieves in disguise

OFFICERS from the National Police have arrested a man for thefts from passengers passing through the Alicante-Elche Airport.

The detained man  – a 36-year old French national – disguised himself as an employee of the airport and used false documentation as he managed to steal various objects of value from people using the airport.

The alarm was raised when a number of thefts had been reported in the airport buildings and as a result, hours of recordings from security cameras close to where the alleged thefts took place were looked at.  Investigations pointed to the same person dressed in a reflective vest and posing as a worker in the car park offering to help travellers with their luggage.  As he gained their trust, he took advantage of the naivety of his victims and took various items without them being aware.

Once a series of images of the suspect were obtained, a search began and a man was quickly arrested.  He was subsequently identified by previous victims.
