Beware the pet poisoners

REPRESENTATIVES of local people and animal associations are issuing warnings as a result of the deaths of several dogs and seagulls caused by poison.

ASPETGA (Association of Pet Owners of Santa Pola and Gran Alacant) have come out strongly against the premeditated poisoning of a number of animals in Santa Pola in less than a week.

They are particularly concerned at the deaths of two dogs in the Pintor Sorolla area that ate something that had been poisoned; a fact confirmed by the local vets who did their very best to save the animals but could do nothing for them.

These latest incidents have pushed the residents of Santa Pola and ASPETGA into action by beginning a petition to the council to ask for a park to be made available so dogs can be walked and exercised in safety nearer than the existing park in Gran Alacant.

The group are also warning against poisoning of the gull population that are a protected species and any such crime committed against them would attract the severest of penalties.
