Café Uno Golf Society annual Captain’s Day

THE well supported Café Uno Golf Society from Catral has held their annual Captain’s Day.  In a sign that another season has flown past, this event signals the last of fixtures for the year and also the AGM that was held on Wednesday to elect new committee members and prepare for the new season.

The beautiful and very challenging Las Colinas was the venue for the Captain’s Day and thus the excellent turn out to play on such a fine course on a sunny and hot day; although some did suffer in the heat.  As always, the welcome 19th hole was on hand for the group of weary and dehydrated golfers to be well and truly watered and reflect on a great day’s golf enjoyed by all that took part.

The format was individual Stableford and prizes awarded for nearest the pin and 2’s. With two categories on the day, the results were as follows. There were two categories on the day.

Gold Category
1st A. Baines – 34pts. 2nd S. Lawrence – 33pts on c/b.

Silver Category
1st J. Kilkenny – 30pts on c/b. 2nd B. Howie – 30pts on c/b.
3rd I. Jones – 30pts on c/b.

Nearest the pin winners – G. Butterworth, P. Jones, S. Lawrence and R. Rogers.

2’s winners – H. Hunter, G. Butterworth, A. Baines, P. Whitham.

Lots of hard work goes in to running and organising a golf society, which can be a thankless task and very time consuming.  Worthy of special thanks go to the Captain – Graham Butterworth, the handicap secretary – John Pedersen, and the general secretary – Bill Howie.  And finally, Café Uno in Catral deserves a big pat on the back for being fine hosts and for their much appreciated sponsorship on the society.
