ARRROYO DE LA MIEL’S public library has payed homage to Jane Austen in an event to commemorate the bicentennial of the author’s death.

The day, which celebrated the writer of novels including Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Sense and Sensibility, took place at the town’s Innova Centre from 10am and involved round table talks, screenings and a play about her work.

The free event also featured a lecture by University of Malaga professor, Juan Jesus Zaro, who gave a translation of her books.  The vice president of the association, El Sitio de Jane, also spoke about the historical context of Jane Austen’s life.  From 5pm a tour began, organised by the Arroyo de la Miel library, and at 6pm a play, Love and Friendship, was shown.
