THE wonderful Alenda course at Monforte del Cid, Alicante was the venue for the fourth and final round of the summer cup competition, in which the total of the best two scores from the four legs wins the prestigious and highly sought after trophy.
Going into this final leg there were several players in contention, but a final round of 38 points put stalwart Geoff Ettridge tied with Iain Lyall on 72 points. The resulting tiebreak situation was settled by adding the third best score achieved by each player and resulted in a three point margin for Iain who proudly received the trophy.
There was some consolation for Geoff when he won the silver award for the day; the gold award went to Mark Pope with 38 points.
Nearest the pin prizes went to Noel Danagher – who now has two sleeves of balls to collect – Bill Stobo, and twice-successful John Brastock.
The presentation evening took place at the La Marina Sports Complex where the Society enjoyed an excellent meal and wine cooked and served by Helena and her team.
The next get-together is at Las Colinas on Thursday August 31 with the first tee at 9.30am and at a cost of €60.
