MALAGA’S metro system is the second fastest growing in Spain, according to new data.

The city’s public transport system, which has been running since July 2014, attracted 469,000 passengers in June, almost 12 per cent more than normal, and almost 4 million in the last year.

Malaga’s metro is growing faster than the national average of 4.2 per cent more users this year than last year, and increases on a monthly as well as yearly basis.  Palma de Mallorca’s metro system is the only one outpacing faster than Malaga’s, which in turn is growing faster than Madrid’s underground network.

Also revealed by the data was Seville’s drop in metro use- down by 2.4 per cent last year- while it was also shown air travel continues to be the most popular way of getting around growing by 7.9 per cent in the last year, followed by boat transport at 3.6 per cent and buses at 1.8 per cent.
