FUENGIROLA’S Parque de Espana was the scene of a free night time performance by the town’s municipal band.

From 9.30pm, the event, which is part of Fuengirola Council’s cycle of summer cultural performances, saw the band play a selection of songs from famous musicals.

Launching at the beginning of 2006, the municipal band is said to have made “spectacular” progress, both on an “artistic and critical level,” according to Fuengirola Council.

The council has paid tribute to those helping to increase the band’s success, including directors Patrick van den Eynde, Cathy Kotoun, Hans de Doelder, Antonio Ariza, Maria del Mar Muñoz, as well asindividual musicians Antonio Manzano, Jane Monton, Alejandro Maroto, Jose Puyana, Gerardo Lopez, Maria Angeles Castro and Francisco Doblas.

Fuengirola Council also paid tribute to collectives the Alcazaba Quartet of Saxophones and the Wissenkerke Apollo Music Band from Holland, as well as arrangers and composers David Medrano, Juan Carlos Campello and Jose Maria Machuca.
