THE NATIONAL POLICE have arrested a Dutch man, aged 34, in Benalmadena for trafficking large quantities of cocaine and heroin to Belgium.

The man, who is originally from Roodendal in the Netherlands, was captured by Spanish police near his home on the Costa del Sol where he had been living on the run from the Belgian authorities.  The accused is alleged to have been part of a criminal organisation importing drugs to a port in Antwerp in containers, according to police.

They added the gang had moved the drugs by hacking the computer systems of various transport companies, allowing them to use their containers, and importing at least 2,200 kilograms of cocaine and 1,100 of heroin between November 1 2011 and July 1 2013.

Police had arrested several members of the gang in 2011 when they intercepted a container housing 176 kilograms of cocaine but until now the thirty-four-year-old had remained at large
