A PSYCHOPATHOLOGICAL artistic therapy workshop has launched in the Paediatric Unit at Hospital de Denia-MarinaSalud.

Psychopathology is the scientific study of mental disorders, including efforts to understand their genetic, biological, psychological, and social causes.

In providing art workshops, therapist Alicia Costawill help children learn news ways of expressing emotions.

In a study carried out in 2011, a qualitative analysis was done to determine how artistic therapy affects the psychopathology of patients. All patients reported a very good outcome and the qualitative analysis showed that the positive effect of art therapy is mainly due to a strengthening of the patients’ minimal sense of self, accomplished by engagement in the artistic process and by aesthetic reflections on the painted images

So far, the workshops have been conducted with adult patients in the Hemodialysis Unit and on the Oncology Ward. The Department of Health has also conducted the workshops with the relatives of Alzheimer’s association in Teulada.
